Bracken watched, smiling, as her beautiful Thoroughbred mare, Broken Selene, allowed her colt, Bittersweet, to suckle. Sweet Grace, her filly, had evidently seen this utter act of betrayal and trotted over on her slender limbs to shove Bittersweet away, who aimed a lousy kick in return. Broken Selene patiently nudged Sweet Grace away, allowing Bittersweet to suckle. When he had finished, he trotted away, allowing his sister to suckle this time. Bittersweet began to chase a fly, now, a tiny spot of black in the air. He pranced about the field, occasionally rearing and pawing at the insect, without success. Bracken burst into fits of laughter as the confused fly flew directly over Bittersweet's head, and the little colt toppled over backwards, then walked away, seemingly embarrassed...
