Clo trotted the stallion casually along the narrow pathways, avoiding any loose stones or logs to keep him from stumbling, as was typical for him when he was excited. Boe pulled at the reins in protest as she held him back, her slender hands surprisingly strong.
She was controlling the flighty horse rather well; she was sitting to the trot smoothly and half-halting him every so often to stop him from bombing off. Boe tossed his head, his forelock falling in front of his eyes as he broke into a snappy canter, the rocking horse movement making him gain almost no ground in his anticipation.
"Now now boy, steady." Clo muttered, standing in her stirrups. The stallion was getting himself in a state over not being able to gallop, so why hold him back?
Clo looked over her shoulder to check there wasn't anyone rambling along on a docile schoolmaster, before letting the reins slip through her fingers gently. Boe didn't need any encouragement. The rocking horse movement lengthened as he almost exploded into a fast canter, his gait soon devolving into something liquid and flowing. Clo leaned slightly forwards to balance him and clicked, earning a whinny and a lurch into a gallop from Boe. As she sped around the corners, she half-halted the stallion to make sure he wasn't completely in control. She knew that there was a river coming up soon from the map shed studied back at her house, so she began to sit down deep in the saddle and pull Boe up. The stallion tossed his head again, annoyed that he couldn't totally fizzle out his flame, but obeyed with no other sign of a fuss. She soon had him walking, and smiled as the river loomed into view. Patting him, she slid off his back and ran up the stirrups. "C'mon Boe, we'll have a bit of a rest, hmm?" She led the horse forwards onto the bank of the river and let the reins trail beside her. She seated herself on the soft, springy grass and looked up at her stallion. Boe was stood as silent as a lamb, watching his mistress for another instruction. When she gave none, the stallion fell to his knees and stretched himself out on the grass with a contented sigh. Clo watched him, laughing, and looked up the trails for any sign of anyone else.
