for me, The hackamore is easier on my horse and It isn't a fight trying to bridle her. The hackamore FOR ME AND MY HORSE offers me more control and is softer on my horse. Since I mainly ride western I don't use the bridle expect in shows and trail rides. So, I think for my horse the Hackamore is a better choice for my mare. What do you use? Which is better for you and the horse?

Well, i jump my horse, and i use a D ring snaffel, and i find that best. Out in the feild or on a trail, i don't use it much, so then she might be good with a hackamore. but thats just my and my mare. She is an arabian, she is dapple gray, and her name is Simbi.

Wow! She sounds beautiful! My mare is a chestnunt Paint mare, she is chestnut with all but a stripe. She is pure blood paint and her name is Penny. I ride western and plan to do pleasure one day, for me and my horse she HATES the bit and sometimes it hurts her so I use my bridle. Whenever I DO ride with a bridle I also use A snaffel

kool. Simbi is great with that, although i have never taken her in halter, she just follows behind you. I usually just throw the lead on her neck, and walk, lol

My two mares depend on there moods, my 12.2hh palomino mare Topsy who is 22yrs with arthiritus in both hindlegs and just been diagnosed with Advanced Navicula in her off-fore leg i ride mainly in a headcollar bareback western unless going down the road or at a show. My 13.3hh rose grey british riding pony mare Haynevalley Portia who is 9yrs i ride in an eggbut snaffle for shows and a half moon for daily work. I have had her a yer May 2nd and we are already in Novice classes of Dressage. But she will only be hacked soon as she is being put in foal next month. But i ride her in a headcollar now and then as well. So really i can not say which as i do both.

I ride Western on my 5 year old black/white paint American Saddlebred Gelding. He was started on a D ring snaffle and he's still learning, so that's what I use. But depending on my other horses, most of them use a curve bit but one uses a hackamore.

I ride western at school and we use bridles, most with broken shank bits, my coach would kill me if I called it a snaffle bit with shanks, she says that a shank bit is a shank bit and should be called that she's my college prof. so I guess she'd know. Infact I never used a hackamore and I've been riding for almost 5 years now!

I have a Thoroughbred mare called Holly. I use a Dutch gag because I need to. I think you should use what you need, if you can cope with a snaffle thne thats fine, use one, but I cant. My mare is to highly strung and I need a bit more than a snaffle.

Well I think it depends on the rider really. A plain snaffle wont hurt the horse if the rider is a good rider!
